Common faults & fixes
Read estats first
Avalon reports numerically via the cgminer API on TCP 4028, and estats is the richest dump available. Read it top-down: SYSTEMSTATU → ECMM → ECHU → MM_STATUS → PS → PVT_T/V → GHS. Compare GHSavg (measured) vs GHSmm (theoretical) and TA vs nameplate.
→ estats classifies the fault for you - read it before touching anything.
ECHU board not found
estats shows ECHU[N 0 0] - one board missing/faulted. Because Avalon has per-slot addressing, a slot-swap test cleanly isolates board vs controller.
→ Reseat lug+ribbon, then slot-swap to isolate. Avalon's per-slot design makes this decisive.
No hashrate
BOOTBY codes and SYSTEMSTATU tell you why. 0x02 = overheat, 0x03 = pool/DNS, 0x04 = net re-init, 0x11 = no hashrate in 5 min, 0x12 = <70% nameplate.
→ Let the BOOTBY code point you at cooling, pool/DNS, network, or hardware.
PS bitmap ≠ 0
Avalon's PS field is a summed bitmap. Bit 1 = input under-voltage; bit 64 = output over-current (usually a hashboard SHORT); per-channel OC bits point to a specific board.
→ The bitmap names the exact power problem - under-voltage vs a board short vs PSU sensor/fan.
Toohot / PVT
The 'Toohot' red-fault class triggers when PVT_T exceeds ~85 °C. One extreme PVT_T vs neighbors points at that sensor/ASIC rather than a whole-board heat event.
→ Broad heat = cooling path; single-point extreme = that sensor/ASIC (board swap).
Status lights
Status LED solid yellow / amber
System initializing: booting, enumerating hashboards, spinning up fans and PSU. Should turn green within about 5 minutes.
Status LED solid white
Voltage is present and the control board is in early power-on / fan self-check, before mining starts.
PSUPower-supply (PMU) board LED red or off
PSU output is abnormal, the PMU board has a fault, or the power connector is loose (green on this LED = normal output).
~15sAUC / AUC3 controller LED green with a brief red flash about every 15 seconds
AUC controller is healthy and passing IIC traffic to the boards normally.
AUC / AUC3 controller LED solid red, off, or stuck on blue
AUC control-board fault or IIC/USB communication failure.
Raspberry Pi controller red LED on with no green (split-controller models: 721/821/841/1047/1066)
The microSD/TF card is missing or corrupt.
