Firmware is how you upgrade, recover, and optimize a fleet. Stock keeps units on spec; custom firmware (Braiins OS+, Vnish, LuxOS) adds per-chip auto-tuning for better efficiency - at a small dev fee and a voided warranty.
Official MicroBT firmware, upgraded via WhatsMinerTool (batch), the API update_firmware, or an SD-card recovery for bricked units (checksum codes 800/801/802, 100001+). Match the firmware to the machine GENERATION - code 8410 means wrong-gen firmware (M2x on an M3x, etc.).
Whatsminer supports several third-party firmwares (voids warranty, changes the support path). Vnish covers M30S/M31S/M32 and M5x/M6x with per-board tuning and profile switching. LuxOS now supports select Whatsminer (M50 first) with curtailment/fleet features. ASICDIP and BiXBiT also exist.
